Gustine Bull Fight-2010

Once a year the city of Gustine has a week long Portuguese festival. The final event is a bullfight. Unlike bullfights in Portugal, California law requires no blood from the bulls. So rather than stick the bulls with swords or spears, there is a large velco pad attached to its back. When they throw a spear it is attached by velco. This way the bulls don't get hurt or angry but they also don't have much of a reason to get pissed off. In order to run around the bulls extremely well trained horses taunt them by dodging back and forth in front and around them.
As usual I couldn't stand to be up in the bleacher but instead I got down to where the bullfighters and other officials hang out. One of the more exciting part to see was what happens after the bull has done his fight. They have special workers remove the leather covering that goes over their horns. I got to climb on top of the "bull" trailer where they open the hatches and reach down to untie the rope and remove the covers of the horns. These men feel they have the most dangerous jobs.
