Morey and Salineras
Dear family and Friends,
Yesterday Janice and I traveled to Morey and Salinera two of the greatest Inca Ruins. (the day before we were in Machu Picchu)
In Peru, The Sacred Valley has other great sites besides Machu Picchu, so we are spending a week here in Ollantaytambo.
In the US we love to have salted French fries. The Incas were the people who developed the potato and just like us they liked to use salt. The Incas developed Morey as a major experimental testing site for developing potatoes and other corps too. Like many other Inca sites they were masters in terracing and also constructing extensive water systems.
Close by, Salineras is a canyon where a tiny natural stream trickles. Like in all mountain streams, the water contains salt and minerals from the surrounding mountains. The Incas constructed an astonishing array of ponds where the water would evaporate so they could extract salt. The Peruvian people still us it today. We don’t know for sure, but just the maybe Incas used this salt on their potatoes the same as we do on French Fries.
